RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY - HAWK'S ROOST RANCH
Hawks Roost Ranch lies four miles east of the river in the Piner Flat area, a one-time floodplain where the mild slopes consist of sandy clay-loam soils. Five-plus acres of the Mariafeld clone were plotted east-to-west in 1998.
Vines receive plentiful sunlight to attain masculine wines with solid structure. The clear growing-season days are subjected to intermittent periods of morning and/or late afternoon coastal fog to mitigate mid-day heat.
